Breaking News | | Saturday, May 31st, 2008: Ward out of Lineup 4 Weeks After the end of today's game between Chicago and Colorado, Daryle Ward skipped the clubhouse and headed straight for the doctor's office. After he was removed from the game as a precaution after throwing the ball, the Cubs had their worst fears confirmed when it turned out to be more serious. The right fielder will miss at least 4 weeks with a strained elbow ligament.
This year Ward has hit at a .248 pace and produced 17 RBIs, 3 home runs and scored 17 runs. | | Friday, May 30th, 2008: Lee Ups Hit Streak to 20 Consecutive Games And the streak goes on.
Derrek Lee collected another hit in the Cubs 6-5 win over the Rockies. The Chicago first baseman was 1-for-3 in the game. After the game, Diaz commented on his 20-game hitting streak, "I'm not doing too much, just trying to get the bat on the ball and put it in play."
His manager told BNN, "Derrek makes it easy for me to pencil his name in the lineup everyday." D. Lee grounded out in the 1st, walked in the 3rd, walked in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off M. Myers in the 7th and struck out in the 8th.
In his stats this season, Lee has posted a batting average of .332 with 68 hits in 205 at-bats, 8 home runs and 24 RBIs. He has also scored 29 runs, walked 16 times and compiled a .381 OBP. | | Sunday, May 4th, 2008: Gonzalez Batters Chicago Big Time It wasn't poetic justice.
Adrian Gonzalez of the Padres had a terrific 5-hit game today, really socking it to the Chicago Cubs, but his team didn't win the game.
In the clubhouse after the 13-10 loss, he moaned to the press, "Hey, I don't want to sound ungrateful, but something is missing here. When you have a great game you should win the game, too."
And he definitely had an unforgettable day in the batter's box, ripping out 5 hits in 5 at-bats.
The manager for the Padres sympathized with his first baseman and told BNN reporters after the game, "Adrian played a whale of a game, but sometimes individual brilliance is not enough to win... baseball is a team sport... it takes more than just one player to win a game."
A. Gonzalez doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off S. Linebrink in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off B. Howry in the 9th.
In 11 games this season Gonzalez has compiled a .592 batting average with 29 hits and 6 home runs. He has also scored 12 times and knocked in 22 runs. | | | Team Information | Record overall | 21-29, .420 PCT | Position in Division | 7th, 11.0 GB | Record at home | 8-18, .308 PCT | Record on the road | 13-11, .542 PCT | Record in X-inning games | 2-0, 1.000 PCT | Record in one-run games | 3-5, .375 PCT | Record versus LHP | 5-6, .455 PCT | Record versus RHP | 16-23, .410 PCT | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | Record in April | 11-12, .478 PCT | Record in May | 10-17, .370 PCT |
