End of Season Awards Voting
The Awards Voting utility will automatically generate awards ballots based on settings you input and is enabled per league on the Pages admin page of the utility.
Awards including are the following:
- Batter of the Year
- Pitcher of the Year
- Rookie of the Year
- Gold Glove
- Custom Award
- General Manager of the Year
All of the above are league specific (AL vs. NL) except for the GM of the Year award, which spans the entire league.
Once enabled, click the Awards link in the navigation bar and go to the admin page to set up the ballot. Note that you'll need to make sure that your league context matches the league context for the league you're trying to configure. The admin page is broken up into sections, with settings specific to each described below.
Awards Voting Administration
Enable Voting - Check this box to start allowing votes to be cast.
Allow Users to Change Their Vote - If this box is checked, users may come in and change their votes after having already voted. Otherwise, once their votes are cast, the only way to change them is for a commish to come to this admin page and clear it for them.
Show Results to All - If this box is checked, anyone can view the results for the current ballot. If not, only those who have voted will be able to see the results. This setting does not apply to users with commish access, who can always see results.
Maximum Players Per Ballot - Set the upper limit on the number of players to appear on a ballot. Default: 40
For each type of award that has multiple players on the ballot, you can set how many players a user must submit as part of their ballot. In addition to determining how many players a voter must submit on their ballot, it also impacts the weighted scoring for how those votes are counted. Scoring as as follows:
For each award listed, you can enter the standard abbreviation you would like StatsLab to use when displaying the award. For example, if your pitcher of the year award is called the Cy Young Award, you might enter CYA.
Player Qualifications (per team game)
Minimum Plate Appearances - The minimum plate appearances per team game required for batters to appear on the batter of the year ballot. Default: 3.1
Minimum Innings Pitched - The minimum innings pitched per team game required for pitchers to appear on the pitcher of the year ballot. Default: 1.0
Maximum Service Days Prior to Current Season - The total number of major league service days accumulated prior to the current season that a player may have before they no longer appear on the rookie of the year ballot. Default: 45 service days
Gold Glove Award Voting
Enable Voting - Check this box to enable voting for your league's fielding award.
Split Outfielders By Position - Check this box to have voters vote specifically for the best left fielder, best center fielder, and best right fielder. Otherwise, all outfielders will be lumped together into a single group, from which voters must select 3 players.
Minimum Fielding Innings for Position Qualification - The minimum number of defensive innings played, per team game, at the position in question in order to appear on the ballot for that position's fielding award. Default: 4.5
Custom Award Voting
Enable Voting - Check this box to enable voting for a custom award in addition to the standard ones.
Award Name - Enter the name of your league's custom award. e.g. Comeback Player of the Year
Award Abbr - Enter the abbreviation of your league's custom award e.g. CPoY
Custom Award Votes - Enter the ballot size for your custom award. This settings works the same as the ballot size settings higher up on the page in terms of dictating how many votes a voter must place on their ballot and how those votes are weighted when scoring the final tally.
Player Pool - Use this to select the group of players to include on the ballot: Batters, Pitchers, Relievers, or all positions. Players are subject to the same plate appearance and innings requirements as the standard awards, with the exception of relievers, who have a lower innings requirement.
Player Qualification - Select whether this award applies to all players or limit it to rookie qualifiers only. Rookie qualification is the same as listed higher on the admin screen.
General Manager of the Year Voting
Enable Voting - Check this box to enable voting for your league's General Manager of the Year.
General Manager Votes - Enter the ballot size for your GM award. This settings works the same as the ballot size settings higher up on the page in terms of dictating how many votes a voter must place on their ballot and how those votes are weighted when scoring the final tally.
Allow GM's to Vote for Themselves - Check this box to allow GM's to include themselves on their ballot. Leave it off to require GM's to vote only for other league members.
Save - Always save after changing settings!
Clear This Year's Votes - Clears out all votes cast for the current year's End of Season Awards.
Clear All Votes - Clears out all votes cast for End of Season Awards, including past years.
The Voting Detail section of the admin page allows commishes to see which members of the league have cast their ballots. In addition, once votes have been cast, the commish can use the "X" in any column to clear out the user's votes for just that award, or the "X" in the Status column to clear their whole ballot. Commishes can also see an individual user's ballot, if they have a reason to do so.
Adding Player to Ballot Collapses Ballot Box
StatsLab ballots can be sorted by clicking on the column headers. This makes it easier to find the player you wish to vote for.
However, in some browsers, sorting the ballot breaks the function that adds players to the ballot. Instead, the ballot box collapses with no players being added. There is no fix for this.
Workaround - Open two browser tabs or windows. Sort in one, and vote in the other.
