Breaking News | | Friday, May 23rd, 2008: Devil Rays Blank St. Louis, Shields Winner In an impressive outing, James Shields whitewashed the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0.
"I'm getting a lot more downward movement instead of side to side. That side-to-side stuff can get hit a long way," said Shields, who is throwing with more of an overhand motion.
"It's not rocket science. It was just a little adjustment, but that's all it took."
The Tampa Bay hurler held St. Louis scoreless, allowed 5 hits, chalked up 8 strikeouts and yielded 2 walks.
Checking out his stats for the season, Shields has registered 5 wins and 3 losses in 10 starts, 3.29 ERA and struck out 48 batters in 68.1 innings. | | Wednesday, May 21st, 2008: League Gives Schumaker 2-Game Suspension It was showtime at the St. Louis-Pittsburgh game yesterday at Busch Stadium III. St. Louis right fielder Skip Schumaker was kicked out of the game for arguing a third strike and he took out his frustration on his hat, the umpires and the dirt, earning an ejection with the kind of theatrical argument that fans don't often see.
"I didn't like the ump's explanation and told him so in no uncertain terms. I told him he missed it and he knew it. I wanted to kick something and I figured that was the best thing. Walls don't work too well, and water coolers are expensive," Schumaker said. "I don't have any concern. I don't think I did anything that warrants a suspension.
So much for his opinion. The league office did not agree with him and suspended him for 2 games.
This season Schumaker is hitting .128 with 2 home runs. | | Tuesday, May 20th, 2008: Wainwright Agrees to Terms, Stays in St. Louis St. Louis received a bit of good news today as their starting pitcher Adam Wainwright accepted a $4,150,000-a-year offer that will keep him in a Cardinals uniform for 3 years.

He has pitched 59.1 innings, allowed 63 hits, struck out 48 and posted a 4.85 ERA. | | Injuries | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | SS David Eckstein | fractured hand | one week | On DL, eligible for return | P Brad Thompson | torn rotator cuff muscle | one week | On DL, eligible for return (60-day DL) | | Team Information | Record overall | 19-30, .388 PCT | Position in Division | 7th, 14.0 GB | Record at home | 14-11, .560 PCT | Record on the road | 5-19, .208 PCT | Record in X-inning games | 0-3, .000 PCT | Record in one-run games | 2-11, .154 PCT | Record versus LHP | 3-6, .333 PCT | Record versus RHP | 16-24, .400 PCT | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | Record in April | 10-12, .455 PCT | Record in May | 9-18, .333 PCT |
