Stampede Best Panthers in Pitching Duel
|
In a tight game between the New York Panthers and the Columbus Stampede, nobody was more important for the winners than German Vargas. Vargas, who received player of the game accolades for the Stampede, was masterful in the 2-1 win. With the victory, the Stampede record now stands at 70-91.
Columbus grabbed the momentum in the top of the seventh, when Vargas, who is a two-time All-Star, hit a solo home run. His 19th home run of the season put the Stampede out in front, 2-1.
"The old adage is true," said Vargas. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
