Stampede Score Late to Upend Spikes, 10-9
|
Jacksonville center fielder Nick Vandermeulen was sensational. He was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Columbus beat the Spikes, 10-9. Vandermeulen was named the player of the game despite the loss. The Stampede improve their record to 68-90 with the win over Jacksonville.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Columbus right fielder Rodolfo Garcia, facing Ricardo Garcia, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Stampede the 10-9 win.
"Crazy game," said Garcia after it ended.
