Walk-Off Seals 81st Victory for Spikes
|
The Jacksonville Spikes gave their fans something to talk about with a thrilling, walk-off win.
The Jacksonville Spikes got a magnificent performance from pitcher Jesus Barreto, who stifled the New York offense en route to a 2-0 Spikes win at Spikes Ballpark. With the win, the Spikes improved to 81-66.
Ingo Hoppe dealt the Panthers a crippling blow in the bottom of the tenth. With the game tied and a runner on 1st, he hit a walk-off 2-run home run. The longball gave Jacksonville the lead, 2-0. New York pitcher Dave Lopez could only shake his head in disbelief.
"The team always comes first, so pulling out the win on a day like today is the most important thing," Barreto told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
