| Breaking News |  | Thursday, October 7th, 1875: Smyth Whitewashes St. Louis Frank Smyth was in command in his outing against the St. Louis Brown Stockings. He hurled the Chicago White Stockings to a 3-0 shutout victory, yielded 4 hits and chalked up 2 strikeouts and no walks.
"A complete-game shutout. That's fun territory for me," he told reporters in the postgame interview. "I had good balance and mechanics and was able to keep the ball down. When I do that, good things happen."
This year Smyth has a 5-5 record with a 1.14 ERA. |  | Wednesday, July 21st, 1875: Ross at His Best, Blanks St. Louis Fred Ross of the Boston Red Stockings was lights out in a 6-hit whitewash of the St. Louis Brown Stockings.
He told BNN reporters, "I had my good stuff and it went where I wanted it to go."
He registered 2 strikeouts and no walks in shutting out St. Louis 1-0.
