Thursday, October 7th, 1875: Smyth Whitewashes St. Louis
Frank Smyth was in command in his outing against the St. Louis Brown Stockings. He hurled the Chicago White Stockings to a 3-0 shutout victory, yielded 4 hits and chalked up 2 strikeouts and no walks.

"A complete-game shutout. That's fun territory for me," he told reporters in the postgame interview. "I had good balance and mechanics and was able to keep the ball down. When I do that, good things happen."

This year Smyth has a 5-5 record with a 1.14 ERA.
Wednesday, July 21st, 1875: Ross at His Best, Blanks St. Louis
Fred Ross of the Boston Red Stockings was lights out in a 6-hit whitewash of the St. Louis Brown Stockings.

He told BNN reporters, "I had my good stuff and it went where I wanted it to go."

He registered 2 strikeouts and no walks in shutting out St. Louis 1-0.

This season to date, Ross has fashioned a 11-17 mark and 2.07 ERA in 235 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .234 against him and he has logged 17 strikeouts.
Monday, July 12th, 1875: Stanley Has 25-Game Hitting Streak
The Brown Stockings knocked off the Atlantics today by the score of 6-5, but Brooklyn catcher Mike Stanley still managed to extend his hitting streak to 25 games. He finished the day with 1 hit in 5 at-bats.
M. Stanley grounded out in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th and grounded out in the 10th.

Thus far this year Stanley has hit .363 with no home runs and 18 RBIs.
