Thursday, June 3rd, 1875: Johnson Puts Spell on New Haven
In a very sharp performance at Jefferson Street Grounds Bill Johnson of the Philadelphia White Stockings blanked the New Haven Elm Citys 10-0. He permitted 3 hits, struck out 3 strikeouts and had no walks in the White Stockings victory.

This year Johnson has no saves in 2 relief appearances with a 4-2 record and 1.47 ERA.
Monday, May 17th, 1875: New Haven Helpless Against Barta
In an impressive mound performance, Charlie Barta of the Washington Nationals checked the New Haven Elm Citys on a 3-hitter and held them scoreless.

"He was getting ahead of us and keeping the ball off the plate," said the New Haven manager. "Barta kept us confused the whole game."

The Washington hurler rang up no strikeouts and issued no walks in his 11-0 shutout victory.

This year Barta has fanned 7 in 66 innings and collected a 5-3 record with a 1.09 ERA.
Tuesday, April 13th, 1875: Philadelphia Sends Arsenault to New Haven
The Philadelphia Athletics announced a deal with the Elm Citys today, sending 25-year old first baseman Tom Arsenault and 23-year old center fielder Denny Schuelke to New Haven for 33-year old reliever Denny Venable. It had been talked about for the past few weeks and everything came together late last night. All players are expected to be joining their respective clubs shortly.
