Monday, June 14th, 1875: Balke Bangs out 5 Base Hits
"Believe it or not," said New York shortstop Tim Balke, "they threw me some good pitches today."

That would be hard to believe for anyone who saw him dispose of the Westerns with a great 5-hit performance.

"He made it look easy," said the Keokuk manager, who saw his team fall to the New York Mutuals, 5-3. "Hats off to him!"

So far this season, Balke has recorded a .366 batting average with 45 hits, 1 home run, 25 RBIs, 36 runs scored and a .363 OBP.
Monday, June 14th, 1875: Balke Hits for the Cycle
It was a special day for Tim Balke at Union Grounds in Brooklyn. Not only did Mutuals beat the Keokuk Westerns 5-3, but the New York shortstop hit for the cycle, too. The 24-year-old Balke racked up 2 singles, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run to get his name mentioned in the record book. For the game he was 5-5 with 2 runs batted in and 1 run scored.

In the words of the Keokuk manager, "He hit everything we threw. There was just no getting him out today."
Speaking to the press after the game, Balke said, "First pitch fastballs, that's what I was looking for today... I got some good looks."

T. Balke doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI triple in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off J. Zackery in the 9th.

In 1875 Balke has put up a .366 batting average with 45 hits, 1 home run and 25 RBIs.
