| Breaking News |  | Wednesday, July 28th, 1875: New York-Keokuk Announce Deal Today at a press conference the New York Mutuals announced a trade has been completed with the Keokuk Westerns. The Mutuals have shipped 25-year old shortstop Tim Balke and 21-year old center fielder Fred Bohne to the Westerns for 25-year old reliever Bill Rhodes and 22-year old shortstop Denny French.
This season Balke is batting .332 with 32 RBIs, 50 runs scored and 1 home run.

That would be hard to believe for anyone who saw him dispose of the Westerns with a great 5-hit performance.
"He made it look easy," said the Keokuk manager, who saw his team fall to the New York Mutuals, 5-3. "Hats off to him!"
So far this season, Balke has recorded a .366 batting average with 45 hits, 1 home run, 25 RBIs, 36 runs scored and a .363 OBP. |  | Monday, June 14th, 1875: Balke Hits for the Cycle It was a special day for Tim Balke at Union Grounds in Brooklyn. Not only did Mutuals beat the Keokuk Westerns 5-3, but the New York shortstop hit for the cycle, too. The 24-year-old Balke racked up 2 singles, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run to get his name mentioned in the record book. For the game he was 5-5 with 2 runs batted in and 1 run scored.
In the words of the Keokuk manager, "He hit everything we threw. There was just no getting him out today." Speaking to the press after the game, Balke said, "First pitch fastballs, that's what I was looking for today... I got some good looks."
T. Balke doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI triple in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off J. Zackery in the 9th.
