Monday, November 1st, 1875: Gotcher's Great Year Nets Pitcher of the Year Award
The Pitcher of the Year Award for 1875 has been presented and the National Association winner is Joe Gotcher of Philadelphia.

"It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Gotcher. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Athletics star told reporters.

Gotcher excelled with an impressive 38-13 record in 55 starts. In 442.2 innings he yielded 427 hits and 5 walks, while striking out 23 and compiling a fine 1.73 ERA.
Monday, November 1st, 1875: Jim Shemo Picked NA's Best Hitter
Athletics right fielder Jim Shemo was at the top of the heap in the National Association this season and today he nabbed the Batter of the Year Award.

In 1875 he rang up 126 hits, 6 doubles, 4 triples, 1 home run, 51 RBIs and 86 runs scored. All those numbers helped him to build his .347 batting average and .354 on-base percentage.

For Jim Shemo of the Philadelphia Athletics, 1875 was a very good year. Shemo nabbed the National Association batting championship with a .347 average. On the season, the 26-year-old right fielder registered 126 hits, 86 runs, 6 doubles, 4 triples, 1 home run and 51 RBIs.
