National Association News Article | | | Tuesday, August 19th, 1873: Vivian Finally Fails, Streak Ends at 28 Denny Vivian's 28-game hitting streak was snapped today at Jefferson Street Grounds. The 33-year-old White Stockings left fielder failed to get a hit in 5 at-bats in the game with the Boston Red Stockings, but Philadelphia came out the winner, topping them 9-5.
One of his teammates told BNN, "The streak was no big deal to Denny. He ain't that type of guy. He just wants to help the team win ballgames. That's the bottom line."
Thus far in 1873 Vivian is hitting .305 with no home runs, 31 RBIs, 49 runs scored and has compiled a .307 OBP. | |
