Few players manage to attain the elite status of a .400 batting average, but Polansky kept his focus the entire season and ended it with a fabulous .404 average.
He totaled 113 hits, 13 doubles, 6 triples, no home runs, 36 RBIs and 78 runs scored.
"It was an amazing year. It doesn't get any better than this," Polansky said during a press conference today. | | Wednesday, October 28th, 1874: Gray Sizzles with 20-Game Batting Streak The Red Stockings proved to be mere mortals today as they lost to the Athletics 5-4, but Jim Gray continued his god-like hitting as he collected 2 hits and ran his hitting streak to 20 games.
When asked about his torrid-hitting second baseman, the Boston skipper said, "Gray is playing great and is on fire now. Hopefully his play can spark the rest of our team and help us pick up some wins."
Gray was apparently not happy with the game and when pressed by reporters in the locker room only said, "We lost the game. Nothing else really matters." J. Gray flied out in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th, singled in the 10th and grounded out in the 12th.
Gray is swinging at a .301 pace on the year with no home runs, 56 RBIs and 65 runs scored. He has played in 70 games. | |
