| Breaking News | | Friday, September 21st, 2007: England's Julyan Asked for Trade. Fact or Fiction? Rumors circulating around town, say shortstop Harvey Julyan is not happy at all playing in England and that the Three Lions are actively shopping him around. | | Tuesday, September 11th, 2007: Three Lions Blank France, Wroot Winner Jonathan Wroot was downright nasty in pitching a 4-0 shutout against France. His splitter was diving, his slider was breaking and the Les Bleus were swinging and looking bad. In the solid 5-hit shutout the Three Lions hurler chalked up 3 strikeouts and 2 walks in a strong outing.
"As the game went on, he got stronger," his manager said. "I thought he really turned it up a notch in the eighth and ninth and probably threw his best breaking balls in those two innings. They put a lot of balls in play early in the count because he was throwing strikes."
This season Wroot has compiled a 14-10 record with a 4.54 ERA. | | Sunday, September 9th, 2007: England Hopeless Against Al-Fayed "That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," the Bafana manager told reporters after today's game.
The Three Lions ran into a buzzsaw as Iyasu Al-Fayed cut them down to size 7-0 with a 5-hit shutout.
His skipper added, "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one."
In the complete game whitewash the South Africa hurler doled out 1 walk and registered 3 strikeouts.
In the postgame press conference his catcher said, "Iyasu goes out there and just goes about his business. I don't think he gets too concerned about what's going on. You can call any pitch and you know where he's going to be."
Al-Fayed also got some praise from the England manager.
"He really kept us in check today. Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away... we took some pathetic swings."
To this point in the season Al-Fayed has 16 wins and 4 losses and a 2.67 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 80-74, .519 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 14.0 GB | | Record at home | 43-34, .558 PCT | | Record on the road | 37-40, .481 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 7-10, .412 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 25-18, .581 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 19-18, .514 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 61-56, .521 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 15-13, .536 PCT | | Record in May | 13-16, .448 PCT | | Record in June | 15-11, .577 PCT | | Record in July | 14-14, .500 PCT | | Record in August | 15-14, .517 PCT | | Record in September | 8-6, .571 PCT |
