| Breaking News | | Tuesday, September 11th, 2007: Salinas on Rampage Against Los Cafeteros! Today the La Vinotinto downed the Los Cafeteros 11-4 as Luis Salinas sprayed hits all over Ballpark of Venezuela in a 5-hit explosion, finishing up with 5 hits in 5 at-bats.
The Venezuela left fielder said to SION reporters in the postgame interview, "It makes it easier if you get a good pitch. The odds are in your favor then, not the pitcher's. I got a bunch of very pretty pitches to hit today, and I didn't miss any of them."
L. Salinas doubled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off J. Ruíz in the 7th.
Salinas is hitting .325 in 2007 with 106 RBIs and 23 home runs. | | Sunday, July 22nd, 2007: García Tags Uncle Sams 5 Hits 5 times is a charm -- at least in the world of baseball. When a player gets 5 or more hits in a game, he is honored in the record book. The latest honoree is Juan García of the Colombia Los Cafeteros.
Today he beat up their pitching to the tune of 5 hits in 5 at-bats, but it was the United States Uncle Sams that salvaged a 8-4 victory at Ballpark of Colombia.
"García was a tough out today," the United States manager said to the press in the postgame interview. "He hit some very good pitches with that quick bat of his. Not an easy out, that's for sure. I'm just glad we held everybody else in check and got the win."
Speaking to the SION writers, García added, "It was a real good day for me individually, but not a good one for the team. No loss is a good one."
J. García singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 9th.
García is currently hitting at a .318 pace with 8 home runs and 30 RBIs. | | Friday, June 29th, 2007: Javier Fernández Injured, Out of Lineup It took the Colombia team doctor a while to realize it, but starting pitcher Javier Fernández won't simply play through a strained elbow ligament after he got hurt throwing a pitch in today's Uncle Sams-Los Cafeteros game. At first, it looked like Fernández might be back as early as tomorrow, but now the prognosis isn't quite so good; he's expected to miss at least 7 weeks. A spokesman for the club described the loss of Fernández as a blow, but was confident that he'd be back soon.
His record this year is 7-8 in 17 starts and Fernández has a 3.71 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 52-102, .338 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 41.0 GB | | Record at home | 30-47, .390 PCT | | Record on the road | 22-55, .286 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 4-9, .308 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 18-32, .360 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 24-46, .343 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 28-56, .333 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in April | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in May | 12-17, .414 PCT | | Record in June | 5-21, .192 PCT | | Record in July | 10-18, .357 PCT | | Record in August | 7-22, .241 PCT | | Record in September | 5-9, .357 PCT |
