A hot-hitting week got Ira Gray the Western Hemisphere Player of the Week trophy. He really wore out his welcome with league pitchers.
The Brazil center fielder slammed them for a .533 average, 16 hits in 30 at-bats, 2 home runs, 12 RBIs and scored 7 runs.
In the postgame press conference, Gray shared his hitting philosophy with the SION scribes: "Just look for the seams and hit between them...nothin' more than that."
For 2007 Gray is batting .283 with 26 home runs, 92 RBIs and 82 runs scored.

| Friday, August 31st, 2007: Hooray for Gray! Hammers 5 Hits!
"Ever since I picked up my first bat my coaches were always saying to keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing... just make contact and ya never know what'll happen," Brazil's Ira Gray told reporters after the game. "That's all I did today. I made contact and it turned out well."
It definitely turn out well for Gray today as he collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats against United States. It turned out well for his team, too, as the Selecao Canarinho knocked off the Uncle Sams 13-3 at Estadio do Maracana.
I. Gray walked in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.
This year Gray is batting .282 with 26 home runs. He has scored 82 runs and driven in 90.

The Western Hemisphere has made it official -- Shigetoki Nakamura is the winner of the Rookie of the Month award.
During July the Brazil left fielder was outstanding with a .293 batting average, 6 home runs and 29 RBIs. Nakamura also had 3 walks and posted a .330 on-base percentage.
In the current season, Nakamura has put up a .268 batting average with 51 hits, 10 home runs, 43 RBIs and scored 23 times.
