Wednesday, September 19th, 2007: Kiwis Gillin Ailing with Illness
New Zealand center fielder Sam Gillin hasn't been feeling well lately and now has been diagnosed with the flu. He's expected to be out for 1-2 weeks.

Thus far this year Gillin has hit .306 with 8 home runs and 51 RBIs.

Sunday, September 2nd, 2007: WH's Premier Hitter, Martínez of New Zealand
There's something special about a guy who can stride up to the plate and put the ball anywhere -- in the stands, off the wall, into the gap, down the third base line -- you name the place and José Martínez probably put it there to win the Western Hemisphere Batter of the Year Award for 2007.

The New Zealand right fielder belted out 138 hits on his way to a .322 batting average and racked up 24 doubles, 5 triples, 19 home runs, 73 RBI and 71 runs scored.

All of the league award winners will be acknowledged this weekend at the SION Baseball Writers Association annual dinner.

Saturday, September 1st, 2007: Craigie Wins Best Bat Trophy in August
In August, Matthew Craigie let his bat do the talking for him. The New Zealand third baseman smacked the ball at a .406 average as he laid claim to the Western Hemisphere Batter of the Month award.

He rapped 10 home runs, drove in 41 and scored 23 runs.

Craigie is batting .265 this year with 21 home runs, 96 RBIs and 61 runs scored. He has 112 hits in 423 at-bats.
