| Breaking News | | Friday, September 14th, 2007: WH Presents Top Pitcher Trophy Mathys LaRocque was the Toronto stopper this season. When the team got on a bad roll, he was always there to put a stop to it. That's one of the reasons he was singled out as the 2007 Western Hemisphere Pitcher of the Year Award winner. His impressive 17-7 record and 2.37 ERA also figured heavily with the SION voters.
In his award-winning year the 26-year-old Canucks star hurled 201.2 innings, tallied 250 strikeouts and 45 walks, limited hitters to a .203 batting average and posted a 2.37 ERA.
For his fine season the SION Baseball Writers Association will present him his trophy this weekend at its annual awards dinner. | | Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007: Rowland Hurls Masterpiece He didn't put a spell on them. It wasn't black magic, it was just old-fashioned good pitching. That's how Fred Rowland of the Toronto Canucks blanked the Auckland Knights 3-0.
After tossing a complete game 1-hit shutout, he was all smiles, saying, "I threw a lot of my pitches for strikes in this game. I mixed it up and tried keeping these guys off balance."
His own skipper said, "He's at his best when he gets ahead of the hitters." Rowland walked 1 and struck out 10 in the victory.
The Knights manager commented on their lack of success against him, saying, "He was throwing his breaking ball for strikes and we never capitalized on any of his mistakes."
Rowland has made 29 starts this season, posting 17 wins and 4 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .213 against him and he has 223 strikeouts in 212.1 innings with a 3.01 ERA. | | Monday, August 20th, 2007: Rigbye On Fire! 5-6 for Auckland! Today the Knights downed the Canucks 18-8 as Andre Rigbye sprayed hits all over Knights Ballpark in a 5-hit explosion, finishing up with 5 hits in 6 at-bats.
The Auckland center fielder said to SION reporters in the postgame interview, "It makes it easier if you get a good pitch. The odds are in your favor then, not the pitcher's. I got a bunch of very pretty pitches to hit today, and I didn't miss any of them."
A. Rigbye hit an RBI double in the 1st, hit a two-run single in the 2nd, struck out in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, hit a GRAND SLAM off R. Rowsell in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off A. Abe in the 8th.
This season-to-date Rigbye has 17 home runs and a .257 batting average. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 70-60, .538 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 2.0 GB | | Record at home | 37-28, .569 PCT | | Record on the road | 33-32, .508 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 5-7, .417 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 22-23, .489 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 19-16, .543 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 51-44, .537 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 18-6, .750 PCT | | Record in May | 15-12, .556 PCT | | Record in June | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record in July | 9-17, .346 PCT | | Record in August | 11-14, .440 PCT |
