| Breaking News | | Monday, September 3rd, 2007: Juan Rojas Picked WH's Best Hitter A great year at the plate is often interrupted by injuries and slumps that crop up through the long season. Not the case for shortstop Juan Rojas, who nailed down the Western Hemisphere Batter of the Year Award with his strong consistent output from start to finish.
He put up a .319 average and .388 on-base percentage in 2007 as he totaled 136 hits, 28 doubles, 6 triples, 7 home runs, 58 RBIs and 70 runs scored.
For being named the WH's top hitter, Rojas will be honored at the SION Baseball Writers awards banquet this weekend. | | Saturday, July 7th, 2007: O'Tynan Pitches Manukau to Shutout Win It was a long day at the plate for the Barquisimeto Musicos. They never did figure out Tiarnán O'Tynan and were shut out 12-0. The Manukau hurler baffled them the entire game, yielding no runs and 3 hits in a very well-pitched outing. O'Tynan also totaled 11 strikeouts and 1 walk in the game.
This season O'Tynan has fanned 79 in 72 innings and collected a 4-3 record with a 4.00 ERA. | | Wednesday, June 27th, 2007: Leon Comes up Empty Against Barbiusa "Geomar Barbiusa is really a good pitcher when he throws strikes early in the count," said his manager after the Manukau hurler tossed a complete game 4-hit shutout against the Leon Leones.
"I went right after each hitter, trying to get ahead in the count," said Barbiusa. "I wanted them to swing the bats and keep my pitch count down. It worked. I felt strong the whole game, even in the last two innings."
Barbiusa walked 1 and struck out 10 in the 6-0 victory.
Barbiusa has started 15 times this year, pitched 111.2 innings, fanned 113 batters and walked 26. His current record is 10 wins and 3 losses with a 1.77 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 62-58, .517 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 12.5 GB | | Record at home | 29-31, .483 PCT | | Record on the road | 33-27, .550 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 8-5, .615 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 15-18, .455 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 16-19, .457 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 46-39, .541 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 2-8, .200 PCT | | Record in April | 10-13, .435 PCT | | Record in May | 14-12, .538 PCT | | Record in June | 18-10, .643 PCT | | Record in July | 13-12, .520 PCT | | Record in August | 7-11, .389 PCT |
