Tuesday, July 17th, 2007: Brocksopp Collects Cycle
"How sweet it is when the sweet part of the bat makes contact with the baseball. It's music to my ears." That's how Leon Brocksopp, the England right fielder, described what happened in today's 14-4 victory over the Germany Die Nationalmannschaft -- hitting for the cycle.

In baseball, a player hits for the cycle when he hits a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. Collecting the hits in that order is known as a natural cycle.

"I heard that sound every time I hit the ball -- it really was a special game for me."

It was a game good enough for him to make a little history. He bombed Germany pitching for 4 hits in 4 at-bats, and his name will now go into the record book.

L. Brocksopp hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off D. Bailleul in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th and hit an RBI triple in the 6th.

This season Brocksopp is batting .235 with 11 home runs. He has scored 55 runs and driven in 46.
